**Autodesk and AGC Launch Initiative to Equip Over 300 Women with Better-Fitting Safety Harnesses and Encourage More Women to Join the Construction Industry**
**SAN RAFAEL, Calif., March 2, 2020** — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) have announced a new grant program that will provide more than 300 fall protection harnesses specifically designed for women to 21 construction companies. This initiative aims to improve safety for female workers while also addressing the growing labor shortage in the construction industry.
The grants are part of a broader effort to make the construction sector more inclusive and to ensure that women have access to the right tools and equipment to perform their jobs safely. According to federal data, women make up less than 9% of the total construction workforce and just under 3% of craft professionals. Meanwhile, falls remain one of the leading causes of worker fatalities in the industry, as identified by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Stephen E. Sandherr, CEO of AGC of America, added that properly fitting PPE is essential for preventing injuries and keeping workers safe. “Ill-fitting gear can be dangerous and even contribute to accidents. These grants will help women access the right equipment and encourage more to pursue careers in construction.â€
Several of the participating firms shared their excitement about the initiative. Russ Nicolai, safety manager at Snyder Roofing, said the grant comes at a critical time. “We’re always looking for ways to improve ergonomics and safety for our employees. This grant gives us the opportunity to address a real need in our industry.â€
Anne Brown of Christman Constructors, Inc., noted that the lack of exposure to construction among women is a major barrier. “With over half the population missing from the industry, it’s time we create opportunities and support systems that encourage more women to join.â€
The program includes training for all recipients on how to use the harnesses properly. AGC is also working with safety equipment manufacturers MSA and 3M to ensure the gear meets the specific needs of female workers.
A total of 21 companies will benefit from the grants, including well-known names like McCarthy Building Companies, Rosendin Electric, and Hughes General Contractors. These firms collectively employ more than 22,000 people across the country.
Grantees will be recognized at the AGC Annual Convention and CONEXPO-CON/AGG conference in Las Vegas during the week of March 9. This initiative marks an important step forward in making the construction industry safer and more welcoming for women.
