Tim Olk captured images from two separate fires that occurred in Chicago yesterday. The first was a Still Alarm at the 500 block of Onarga on the city’s northwest side, which was shared here along with photos from Steve Redick. The second was a 2-11 Alarm fire that took place at 118th Street and South Yale on the south side of the city. The Chicago Tribune published a short article here detailing the 2-11 alarm incident. According to the report, the fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. at a home near 118th Street and South Yale Avenue. It began on the first floor and quickly spread to an adjacent building. Here is a photo from the scene showing Chicago Engine 75 responding to the 2-11 alarm at 118th Street and Yale on Sunday. Tim Olk captured this moment. After the fire was brought under control, firefighters conducted a thorough overhaul from the platform of Tower 34. This image shows the effort made by the crew to ensure no hidden flames remained. Later in the afternoon, another fire occurred on Onarga. Here is a photo showing the 11th Battalion directing overhaul work on the roof of the structure, with members of Truck 55 actively involved. Another shot from the Onarga fire shows firefighters from Truck 55 working to access a hidden fire near the upper soffit. This kind of work is crucial in fully extinguishing the blaze. A final image captures a firefighter removing exterior siding to expose the fire's extension. This step is often necessary to fully assess and control the situation. These photos give a clear view of the efforts made by Chicago firefighters to respond to and contain these incidents.
