On Friday, a fire broke out at a residential home located at 948 N. Homan on Chicago's west side. Dan McInerney, who was in the city at the time, witnessed the incident and captured several images along with a detailed account of the response. He arrived after the fire had been fully extinguished and shared the following description: "Seconds after the Main Fire dispatched Battalion 12 to the scene, Engine 4-4-11 arrived and requested an emergency still and box for people trapped in a 1.5-story house with heavy fire throughout and fire exposure to a similar structure in Sector 4. First due Engine 44 arrived and deployed a line into the first floor while Truck 36 conducted primary and roof ventilation. The initial search came back negative, as the house turned out to be vacant. Second due Engine 95 moved west on Augusta and brought their line to the rear. Second due Tower Ladder 14 performed a search of the exposure and also did roof ventilation. Third due Engine 76 brought a line into the adjacent building." The photos taken by Dan McInerney show the aftermath of the fire, including firefighters resting and rehydrating in the heat of the day, which reached the upper 80s. One image features Battalion 7 Chief Maria DeCaussin (RIT) standing next to Battalion 13 Chief Sean O'Driscoll in front of the building. Another shows Truck 36 being prepared for service, while others capture Engine 44, Engine 76, and the use of hydrants during the operation. The images give a real-time glimpse into the coordinated efforts of the Chicago Fire Department during this incident.
