For today's Throwback Thursday, I wanted to share some really cool vintage photos of firefighting equipment at O’Hare Airport. These images really take me back to a different era in emergency response history.
I found these great shots taken by Steve Redick, who has an amazing eye for capturing the essence of firefighting culture. The first image shows one of the older ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) vehicles that were stationed at O’Hare. It’s fascinating to see how much the technology and design have evolved over the years.
In another shot, you can see the iconic Chicago FD Squad 7A, which looks like it’s straight out of a classic film. The attention to detail in the vehicle’s appearance is incredible, especially considering the time period it comes from. There’s also a fantastic picture of Squad 12 at O’Hare, looking sharp and ready for action.
One of my favorites is the image featuring Truck 3 at O’Hare. This piece of equipment was clearly built for both function and durability. You can almost feel the weight of its purpose just by looking at it. It’s amazing how these vehicles played such a crucial role in airport safety during their time.
The whole collection gives you a real sense of the dedication and professionalism of the firefighters who worked with this equipment. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come but also how essential these roles continue to be. I hope you enjoy these throwbacks as much as I do!
