The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) recently carried out nationwide inspections and random sampling to evaluate the quality of detergents and white latex products. A total of 68 samples were collected from 51 companies across 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions for detergent products, with 65 passing the tests. This results in a sampling qualification rate of 95.6%. For white latex, 51 samples were taken from 51 companies in 9 provincial-level administrative regions, of which 43 passed, giving a pass rate of 84.3%.
During the inspection of detergent powder products, several key quality issues were identified. The primary problem was that the detergency ratio did not meet the required standards, with two products failing. Another issue was the excessive free alkali content, which exceeded the allowed limits in one product. This occurs when manufacturers increase the alkalinity to enhance cleaning performance, but high levels of free base can damage fabrics over time.
In the case of white latex products, 17 large and medium-sized manufacturers passed all their quality checks, while a few smaller companies produced substandard items. One major concern was the presence of excessive formaldehyde. Seven products had free formaldehyde levels ranging from 1.1g/kg to 1.5g/kg, surpassing the national standard of 1.0g/kg. Additionally, some products failed in pH and viscosity tests. High pH levels can cause corrosion on wood surfaces, while poor viscosity may affect the initial bonding strength of the product, leading to reduced performance during use.
These findings highlight the importance of maintaining strict quality control measures across all production scales, especially for consumer products that come into direct contact with daily use. Consumers are advised to choose products from reputable manufacturers and pay attention to product specifications to ensure safety and effectiveness.
