On May 18, 2015, around 1:00 PM, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (FPD) responded to a house fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered parts of the cedar shake roof already engulfed in flames and immediately requested a MABAS Box Alarm. As strong winds were reported, the alarm was escalated to a second and then a third alarm, with units being pulled back for an exterior attack.
Multiple hand lines were deployed, some utilizing foam to control the blaze. After a section of the roof was burned away, firefighters re-entered the structure to locate and extinguish hot spots, ensuring the fire was fully under control.
A large smoldering fire pit was found in the backyard, positioned upwind from the house, raising concerns about potential flare-ups. The incident drew a significant number of emergency responders from various departments across the region.
Units on scene included Barrington Countryside FPD with two engines and two tenders, as well as engines from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Hanover Park, West Dundee, Schaumburg, and Carpentersville. Trucks from Hoffman Estates, McHenry Twp, Countryside, and Palatine were also present, along with squads from Libertyville and Cary. Ambulances from Buffalo Grove and Long Grove, and tenders from Long Grove, McHenry Twp, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, Prospect Heights, Palatine Rural, East Dundee, Bartlett, Wauconda, and Rutland-Dundee supported the operation. Additional resources included MABAS Air 5 and the MESS Canteen.
Several contributing agencies and personnel were on site, highlighting the coordinated effort to manage the situation.
Photos from the scene captured the intensity of the response, including firefighters applying foam, large hoses in action, and multiple fire trucks stationed at the location. The images were taken by Larry Shapiro and Steve Redick, with more photos available at shapirophotography.net.
