According to the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District website: The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Trustees officially signed a contract with Paramedic Services of Illinois (PSI), a local company based in Schiller Park, to provide 33 full-time firefighter/paramedics when the district begins operating independently on January 1, 2014. This agreement marks a major step forward for the district as it transitions from its previous arrangement with the village. The contract was finalized during a special meeting on September 5, giving Fire Chief and Administrator Jeff Swanson the green light to begin coordinating with PSI to staff both the Barrington Hills and Lake Barrington fire stations. In addition, the trustees are exploring ways to enhance staffing levels by hiring part-time personnel through PSI. Recruitment is set to start in October, with training and orientation beginning in early November. All firefighters and paramedics will be employed by PSI but will work directly under Chief Swanson’s supervision. This structure ensures continuity and clear leadership within the new department. As part of the agreement, PSI has committed to hiring any Barrington firefighters who lose their positions with the village in December, offering them the chance to continue their careers with the BCFPD. However, the trustees had delayed finalizing the contract until the village released the names of those affected, which is essential for proper planning. “We hope the village will share the names of the affected firefighters as soon as possible,†said Chief Swanson. “This will give them enough time to apply for positions with the district.†These newly hired firefighters will receive the same salary and benefits they previously enjoyed as village employees, including paid time off. They will also have the opportunity to advance into officer roles within the new department. In a show of support, BCFPD trustees received a letter from various local officials, including representatives from Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, North and South Barrington, as well as Cuba Township and Lake County—nearly all the jurisdictions served by the district. The letter praised the decision to partner with PSI, stating that it would ensure the availability of qualified personnel, including those potentially laid off due to the village's reduction in force, to serve the community. With the PSI agreement now in place, the district is moving forward with plans to divide the shared equipment and apparatus between the district and the village of Barrington. The board may also consider purchasing additional equipment depending on how the current assets are distributed. Want to better fluoropolymer PTFE, PFA lined corss for your chemcials pipeline?
