Hey everyone,
This is Steve Redick, just wanted to share some thoughts and photos from an interesting experience I had earlier last week. I stopped by the old building at Thomas and Central Park in Chicago. It’s a place that’s seen its fair share of fires—marked by that distinct red ‘X’ on the exterior. When I arrived, it was already surrounded by a lot of activity, but the scene had calmed down enough for me to snap some shots.
The lighting that day was incredible—it’s not something you see often in this part of town. The golden hour really worked in my favor, giving everything this warm glow that just made the photos pop. I’ve been trying to capture more of these moments lately, especially since the weather has been cooperating more than usual.
Attached are a few images I took while I was there. You’ll see everything from the firefighters’ equipment to the aftermath of the fire itself. It’s always fascinating to see how quickly they can respond and how organized everything gets during an emergency like this.
I snapped photos of Engine 44, Tower Ladder 34, and even got a shot of their snorkel unit in action. Each angle tells a different story about the chaos and preparation involved. There’s also a couple of wider shots showing the building itself, which gives you a better sense of the scale of the situation.
Let me know what you think! Photography has become such a great way for me to document these kinds of scenes, and it’s always rewarding when the results turn out well.
Take care,
Steve
P.S. All the photos were taken by me unless otherwise noted.
