**A Message from the Webmaster:**
I’d like to sincerely apologize to everyone who follows this website (and the blog) for the lack of updates, changes, and modernization over the years. When the site was first launched in August 2009, it included fire departments and districts across the region, along with station details and apparatus information. At the time, I chose to build the site using three different software tools in an effort to create a layout that was easy to view and navigate.
As the site grew, so did the complexity. The blog evolved, and the task of maintaining the main site became overwhelming. Adding a new department took as much time as updating one or two pieces of equipment. It was simply unsustainable. For example, it once took nearly 20 minutes just to add a single new vehicle to a department’s page. Something had to change.
To keep things moving, I started posting new apparatus on the blog while saving the images in a folder for later updates. However, the main site hasn’t been updated in over a year, and that’s not acceptable. After testing several different platforms, I’ve finally begun the long-overdue rebuild of the entire site.
This is a massive project—recreating every existing department and station, plus adding those that were never posted before. Initially, I hoped to complete the new site all at once, but that may still take months. For now, the original site, **Chicagoareafire.com**, remains online alongside the development version, **Chicagoareafire.com/dev**, which is accessible to anyone who wants to take a look.
So far, the Chicago Fire Department, MABAS Division 1, MABAS Division 3, and parts of MABAS Division 4 are live on the new site. Some recent apparatus have been added, but many more are still pending. Several contributors have helped make this process possible, and I’m truly grateful for their support.
I welcome any corrections, updates, or submissions as we move forward. Please feel free to explore the site and share your thoughts or photos via the contact form. Your input is invaluable in keeping this resource accurate and up-to-date.
If your department has been added to the new site, please check the information listed—personnel numbers, frequencies, district sizes, and station addresses. Equipment may have been retired or relocated since being added, and I need your help to ensure everything is current.
You can tell when a department has been updated by looking for a white box around the station photo on the MABAS division pages, along with active links.
Take some time to explore the new site—it offers multiple navigation options, including dropdown menus and full-page layouts.
Above all, I ask for your patience. This is a lengthy and complex process, and I’m working to fit it into my busy schedule. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
