On October 18, the second phase of the expansion project of Cummins East Asia Research and Development Center, the world’s largest independent engine company, was officially launched. The total investment of Cummins II project is RMB 33 million, and it is expected to be put into use in the first quarter of 2012. Cummins technicians told the "Daily Economic News" reporter that the second phase of the project has added new energy technology research and development. She said that the investment in the new energy sector accounted for more than 30% of the second phase of the project.

It is reported that a new energy laboratory will be built in the second phase of the project, which will enable research and development from the entire new energy power drive system to parts and components (including motors, battery packs, battery management systems, etc.). The above-mentioned technicians told the reporter that Cummins's R&D technology in new energy is used in some of the new energy sanitation vehicles and buses that are currently operating in China. It is reported that Cummins' new energy products will be launched on the market next year.

Currently, Cummins has four major joint venture power companies in China: Dongfeng Cummins, Xi'an Cummins, Foton Cummins, and Chongqing Cummins. According to an insider from the Cummins East Asia Research and Development Center, since the power joint venture is different from the vehicle joint venture, currently the Cummins four major joint ventures in China are mainly responsible for the production tasks, and the technical requirements are provided by the Cummins Research and Development Center.
