From DeKane Scanner Incidents Here’s a pre-arrival photo of the “mulch†fire we dealt with yesterday around 3 p.m. The structure was showing heavy fire on three sides, and SFD Engine 1 did a great job containing it. Fire had spread to the front of the first floor, the attic, and the second floor. You can check the link for details about the first fire of the day, which was an old barn on Glidden Road. Thanks, Art Update on Monday afternoon's house fire in Sycamore. The fire was dispatched just after 3 p.m. for reports of a brush fire on the 400 block of Mary Ann Cir in Reston Ponds. Sycamore Brush-1 confirmed the front porch was on fire at 3:15 p.m. The call was upgraded to a General Box Alarm 10-1. Cortland Fire dispatched an ambulance for a patient with hand burns. The fire was under control within 40 minutes. All occupants escaped safely, though some suffered minor hand burns. Aid companies involved: DeKalb, Cortland, Genoa-Kingston Fire & Rescue, Hampshire, Elburn, and Burlington.  Multiple fire departments responded around 3:30 p.m. to a blaze at 401 Mary Ann Circle in Sycamore, where a mulch fire spread and made the house uninhabitable, also damaging the neighboring home at 409 Mary Ann Circle. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, but strong winds—up to 30 mph in DeKalb County—raised concerns about potential spread. Sycamore police reported that the homeowner burned her hand during the fire, but the injury wasn’t severe enough to require hospitalization. No one else was injured. Mulch is commonly used to retain moisture and prevent weeds, but it can become highly flammable under hot, dry, and windy conditions. The Cortland, DeKalb, Genoa-Kingston, and Hampshire fire departments provided assistance.
