This is from Larry Shapiro: Chicago Fire Department responded to a Still & Box Alarm on Thursday afternoon, February 4th, 2016, at a vacant 1 1/2-story frame building located at 6125 S. Justine. The fire spread to adjacent buildings—one was vacant and the other was occupied. I arrived after the fire had been declared under control and stayed for part of the overhaul process. Squad 5A was out of service, so they’re using a spare unit that had been temporarily taken out of commission for a TV show. The use of the spare squad highlighted the challenges of maintaining full staffing while also accommodating special requests like filming. The photos capture key moments during the response, including the arrival of the Pierce ladder, the mobile command unit, and firefighters working on the roof and in the aftermath.
