Step-by-Step Guide

To replace the brake pads on your Toyota Sienna, gather the following tools: a floor jack or hydraulic pump, jack stands, a set of sockets, and a torque wrench. Here's how you proceed:

1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly and use the floor jack or hydraulic pump to lift the vehicle. Secure it firmly with jack stands.
2. Take off the wheels and keep the lug nuts safe.
3. Locate the brake caliper and carefully remove it by loosening the bolts while supporting the sliding pin.
4. Never let the brake caliper dangle freely as it could damage the brake lines. Instead, hang it securely using a wire or similar device.
5. Remove the anti-squeal springs, old brake pads, anti-squeal shims, and support plates.
6. Install the new brake pad support plates first.
7. Place a pad wear gauge on each brake pad. Add anti-squeal shims and support plates, applying an anti-squeal compound to the inner sides of the shims.
8. Use a C-clamp with an old brake pad or a specialized tool to push the caliper back into position.
9. Fit the new brake pads with the wear indicators facing upwards.
10. Reattach the caliper onto the rotor, ensuring the sliding main pin is properly aligned. Tighten the bolts to 25 foot-pounds using your torque wrench.
11. Put the wheels back on and lower the Sienna gently to the ground.
12. Sit in the driver's seat and press the brakes a few times. The pedal may feel soft initially but should firm up after a couple of presses.
