This message comes from Jeff Rudolph: --- **December 29, 2015** Spring Grove, IL – The McHenry County Fire Protection District was called out to a fire at 6316 Johnsburg Road. Due to the size of the building and the lack of hydrants nearby, command escalated the response to a Box status and eventually upped it to a third alarm for water tenders. Fortunately, firefighters managed to knock the blaze down quickly before it could spread further into the main residence. It’s worth noting how efficiently these emergency services worked together despite the logistical challenges. The Spring Grove Fire Protection District received the call at 2:26 PM Sunday regarding flames erupting from the roof and windows of an attached toolshed. Chief Richard Tobiasz stated that around 15 fire departments from both Lake and McHenry Counties, along with assistance from Wisconsin, joined forces to extinguish the blaze.” “The fire had spread into the primary house, which is a large converted dairy barn. Crews managed to gain control within an hour. Since there were no hydrants in the area, tankers were sent to the Spring Grove water tower to retrieve water.” “According to Tobiasz, the homeowner had been heating cooking oil inside the toolshed when they went back indoors and possibly fell asleep. A vigilant neighbor noticed the fire, entered the house, and alerted the homeowner and their two adult sons. While the first floor and toolshed sustained fire damage, smoke affected the second floor where the bedrooms are located. Although significant, the house isn’t beyond repair and might be restorable.” --- These updates reflect the collaborative effort between various emergency services and highlight the importance of community vigilance in preventing potential tragedies.
