The Orland Fire Protection District responded to a serious structure fire this afternoon, which escalated to a second alarm. Karl Klotz and Tim Olk were on the scene and captured several photos. Karl provided the following detailed account: "Orland FPD was called to a 2nd Alarm fire at 9381 Bradford Lane in Orland Park, Illinois. Truck Co. 4 arrived first and found heavy fire on both the first and second floors of one unit in a four-unit townhome complex. The crew immediately began attacking the fire in sector 1 using a 2½-inch line, while Engine Co. 2 tackled sector 4 with a deck gun. The fire spread into the attic of the unit in sector 2, and eventually, the roof collapsed over the main fire area. Multiple departments responded, including Orland FPD, Tinley Park, Midlothian, Oak Forest, Country Club Hills, Manhattan, Mokena, Crestwood, Palos, Palos Heights, and Homer." Karl shared several images capturing different stages of the incident. One photo shows Tinley Park Engine Co. 203 working on a 2½-inch line in the garage. Another features the same crew with Assistant Chief Klotz. A third image shows fire venting through the roof of the affected unit. After the main fire was controlled, smoke continued to escape from the townhouse as firefighters prepared to apply a hand line. Inside, crews worked to extinguish remaining hot spots, while another line stood by outside. Despite the effort, fire was still burning in the main building, and firefighters conducted extensive overhaul of the garage and both floors. Tim Olk also contributed his photos, showing Crestwood firefighters removing siding on the upper floor to check for hidden flames. A fire investigator was seen speaking with a chief officer, beginning the process of determining the cause and origin of the fire. Tinley Park Engine 203 and Orland Truck 4 were among the mutual aid units that arrived. Crestwood and Midlothian also sent additional support, with Frankfort Tower 5 responding on the second alarm.
