The Orland Fire Protection District responded to a serious structure fire this afternoon, which escalated to a second alarm. Karl Klotz and Tim Olk were both on the scene and captured several powerful images of the incident. Karl provided a detailed account of the event:
"Orland FPD was called to a 2nd Alarm fire at 9381 Bradford Lane in Orland Park, Illinois. Truck Co. 4 arrived first and found heavy fire on the first and second floors of one unit in a four-unit townhome complex. They immediately began attacking the fire in Sector 1 with a 2½-inch line, while Engine Co. 2 focused on Sector 4 using a deck gun. The fire spread into the attic of the unit in Sector 2, and eventually caused a roof collapse over the main fire area. Multiple agencies responded, including Orland FPD, Tinley Park, Midlothian, Oak Forest, Country Club Hills, Manhattan FPD, Mokena FPD, Crestwood, Palos FPD, Palos Heights FPD, and Homer FPD."
Karl captured several key moments from the scene. One photo shows Tinley Park Engine Co. 203's crew working on a 2½-inch line in the garage. Another image features the same crew with Assistant Chief Klotz. A third shot highlights fire venting through the roof of the main unit, while another shows firefighters preparing to use a hand line after the bulk of the fire had been suppressed.
Tim Olk also documented the ongoing efforts, capturing images of crews working inside the unit to extinguish remaining hot spots, as well as firefighters checking for fire extension. One photo shows Crestwood firefighters removing siding to inspect for hidden flames, while another shows a fire investigator discussing the cause and origin of the fire with a chief officer.
Additional photos highlight the involvement of mutual aid units, including Tinley Park Engine 203, Orland Truck 4, Crestwood Truck 2314, Midlothian Engine 4, and Frankfort Tower 5. These images give a clear view of the large-scale response required for this significant fire.
