Recently, Barge Heavy Industry successfully completed an independent innovation technology transformation project for its 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine, filling a critical gap in the domestic market. This groundbreaking development has not only earned national patents but also demonstrated China’s growing capability in advanced manufacturing technology. The 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine was originally introduced by Shanghai Heavy Industry from another manufacturer. However, the original design had a major limitation: the upper roller and two lower rollers were fixed in place, with no conventional overturning mechanism. While this allowed for smooth bending of cylindrical plates, it created a significant issue after the process was complete. Once the plate was formed, the upper roller could not be moved, causing it to get stuck inside the cylinder. As a result, removing the finished product became extremely difficult, creating bottlenecks in production. This challenge—how to safely remove the bent plate without compromising the machine’s performance—remained unsolved in China for years. In response, engineers at Barge Heavy Industry took on the task, driven by the principle of “learning from imported technology, absorbing it, and then innovating.” After years of research, testing, and refinement, they finally succeeded in overcoming the technical barriers. The upgraded 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine now features additional mechanisms such as a drag-out system, support structure, and wedge mechanism, while retaining the original main components, including the transmission system, lower roller lifting mechanism, lubrication equipment, and control console. These improvements allow the upper roller to be smoothly pulled out after the bending process is complete. Once the plate is removed, the upper roller can easily return to its original position, ensuring a stable, uniform, and jam-free operation throughout the entire cycle. This enhanced machine is now recognized as the largest three-roll bending machine in China. It is specifically designed to bend high-strength, extra-thick steel plates into both cylindrical and conical shapes. Its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, including shipbuilding, metallurgy, petrochemicals, power generation, and cement industries. The modified machine not only meets the demands of new product development but also sets a new standard for heavy-duty bending technology in China.
