Recently, Barge Heavy Industry successfully completed the independent innovation and technological transformation of its 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine, filling a significant gap in the domestic market. This groundbreaking technology has also been recognized with national patents, marking a major milestone in China’s heavy machinery industry.
Originally, the 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine was imported from Shanghai Heavy Industry. However, the original design had a critical limitation: the upper roll and two lower rolls were fixed in place, with no conventional overturning mechanism. While this allowed for smooth bending of cylindrical plates, it created a major issue after processing. Once the plate was formed, the upper roll could not be repositioned or moved, causing it to remain locked inside the cylinder. This made it extremely difficult to remove the finished product, significantly hindering production efficiency.
At the time, the challenge of removing the curved plate without compromising the machine’s performance remained unsolved in China. In response, engineers at Barge Heavy Industry launched an internal project to address this problem, following the principle of “learning from introduced technology, digesting it, and innovating.†Through years of research, testing, and refinement—going through multiple cycles of discussion, practice, and adjustment—they eventually succeeded in developing a new solution.
The upgraded system added several key components to the original equipment, including the main transmission mechanism, the lower roll lifting system, lubrication devices, control console, drag-out mechanism, support structure, and wedge mechanism. These enhancements enabled the machine to complete both bending and finishing operations efficiently. After forming the cylindrical plate, the upper roll could be smoothly pulled out, and once the plate was removed, the upper roll could return to its original position without any jamming or instability. The entire process was smooth, consistent, and fully adapted to the requirements of new products.
As a result, the modified 80×3500 mm three-roll bending machine became the largest of its kind in China. It is specifically designed to bend high-strength, extra-thick steel plates into cylindrical and conical shapes. The machine is widely used in industries such as shipbuilding, metallurgy, petrochemicals, power generation, and cement manufacturing. Its versatility and advanced design make it an essential tool for processing large, thick-walled components, significantly improving productivity and quality in industrial applications.
