BCFPD received a call about a fully involved fire in an attached garage on the 0-100 block of Liberty Drive in South Barrington. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-family home with a garage completely engulfed in flames, and the fire had already spread to the kitchen area.
The incident was immediately upgraded to a Code 4 working fire, indicating a significant level of response needed. Fire crews launched an aggressive attack using both exterior and interior water lines to contain the blaze.
Due to the intensity of the fire, a MABAS box alarm was called in to bring in additional resources. A tender shuttle operation was quickly set up to ensure a steady water supply, which reached 1,000 gallons per minute within 30 minutes of the initial call.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original area of origin, though heavy smoke and water damage were evident throughout the home. Salvage efforts began as the situation stabilized.
All occupants safely evacuated without serious injuries and were assessed by emergency medical personnel on scene. No firefighters were injured during the response.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but early reports suggest it may have started in the garage area. Residents are being advised to remain cautious and report any unusual smells or signs of fire hazards.
